Nothing has humbled me more than being a parent. I thought I had everything under control —- and then I had kids. Now I find myself asking God for help in all kinds of situations all throughout my day. I’ve learned, very practically, that my strength is not enough.
I need God’s help. Constantly. As a parent is a great place to be, because our kids are constantly watching. They watch what we say, how we respond to hard days, and see what we do when we don’t know what to do. They see us live life – and life is hard without God’s help.
The Bible is full of people who prayed and relied on God when their strength or understanding failed. Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
We don’t have to carry the worries of our day or walk through the maze of parenting alone. The Lord is near when we pray and we can pray to Him always. Our kids need to see us in prayer, turning to God for our help, so that they do too.
This week, let’s talk about how we can pray always and with thankfulness to the Lord. And let’s pray our kids join us in saying, “We don’t know what to do Lord, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12b).
