Talk Together

Family conversations with God’s Word.

Have you ever done the right thing because you saw someone else do it first? Has the opposite ever happened? We can lead others in different ways. Some people lead others to do good things and some people lead others to do bad things. Jesus asks His disciples, even young disciples like YOU, to use their God-given influence to lead others to Him.

This is a very special job — one He has thought a lot about! He has specifically placed you in this family, in this neighborhood, at your school and at this time in history to share His Word with others. He invites all of His disciples to make a difference in the world around them by showing people what it looks like to follow Him every day. This task is so important it’s the last thing Jesus told His disciples before He went into heaven. Let’s read about it in Matthew 28:18-20.

ESV

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Did you catch what Jesus wants His disciples to do? He wants His disciples to make more disciples! Jesus wants us to help people follow Him and His ways. This is a really big job — one that we can’t do on our own. But He promises He will ALWAYS be with us.

Look at the beginning of verse 18. Jesus has “all authority” in heaven and Earth. Do you know what that means? It means there is no one greater, no one stronger and no one more capable than Jesus.

When He asks us to teach others about Him, He gives us the ability and strength to do what He asks. We don’t have to worry about what people will think about us or be afraid we’ll say the wrong thing. It’s not our job to change anyone’s heart. We just need to be obedient and share His love with others. Trust Jesus. He will take care of the rest.
