No Matter What Happens, What Should I Do?

We have a joke in our family that our daughters are always wondering, “What’s next?” Before we finish a weekend trip, they want to know where we’re going next. Before we finish dinner, they’re excited about dessert. And before they’ve even looked at their first birthday gift, they want to open the next. My children aren’t the only ones with a contentment problem. Before I finish painting one room, I have big ideas for the next. It’s a never-ending cycle of wanting the next best thing.

Paul faced captivity, he almost starved, and he was shipwrecked for months. He reminded the believers that trusting God for strength is always the next best thing. As Paul closes up his letter to the Philippians, he encourages them to not be anxious about anything; but in everything, in prayer and with thanksgiving, take their requests to God. … He reminds them that in Christ alone they have everything they need for every situation.

We have no idea what the future holds for our children; but no matter what happens, they can rejoice! Why? They can do all things through Him who gives them strength.
