What Should I Do When I Get to Serve Others?

We live in a world of photoshopped selfies, personal shoppers and on-demand access to almost everything. Our children quickly learn, “it’s all about me.” But Scripture says otherwise. Instead, we are told to do nothing from selfish ambition but treat others as more important than ourselves. This is a tough lesson for our kids – and us – to learn.

Even in prison, Paul didn’t stop caring for the people he loved. He didn’t look at serving others as a chore. In fact, he rejoiced. When Paul spoke of humility and selflessness, he spoke from experience. Instead of keeping his friends Timothy and Epaphroditus close to take care of his needs, he sent them to Philippian believers to take care of their needs!

Putting others’ needs ahead of our own is hard! But thankfully, God doesn’t ask us to do this on our own. Instead, He gave us Jesus, God in human form, who humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death on the cross. This week, we can rejoice as God opens doors for our family to humbly serve Him and others.
